HASTINGS WELSH SOCIETY NEWS

22 of us went by charabanc to Greenwich on a lovely day and we watched part of the film Sherlock Holmes II being made at the Maritime Museum. Apparently, Marjorie wasn’t allowed to star as Moriarty!

Hastings Week
We had a smashing coffee morning for Hastings Week; thanks to John and Merle for their hospitality in their lovely new home!  Rhiannon’s Welshcakes were, of course, delicious!

The biggest news of all time was that our own, our very own, Marjorie was awarded the most prestigious award for a resident of Hastings – The 1066 Award. This was presented by the Mayor on Hastings Day, in recognition of Marjorie’s voluntary work in our town.

 ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Recently at the Electric Palace Cinema nearly 50 of us enjoyed and laughed at “Only Two Can Play”. Godfrey says that Swansea hasn’t changed a bit, but he denies he was the handsome lead actor!

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat and there’s a ……….

CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING – Nadolig LLawen!

We do hope to see you at our Christmas Coffee Morning (with mulled wine and mince pies) to celebrate the festive season. It will be hosted by Rhiannon at 2 Bellhurst Cottages, Chitcombe Road, Broad Oak, Brede, TN31 6EU, on Saturday 10 December from 10.30 to 12.00 – look out for the Welsh flag!!! There will be, as usual, a contribution of just £1/head to cover costs. We would be grateful if you could bring a raffle prize – preferably wrapped in Xmas paper!

Thanks to the kind invitation by Eric & Alan, our party will be from 7.00pm on Saturday 14 January 2012 at 24 Lower Park Road, Hastings TN34 2LB. We are providing a buffet – just come and bring a bottle and a raffle prize!!! As we are catering for your every need (!), we need an idea of numbers, so please confirm with Marjorie by 7 January.

HASTINGS WELSH SOCIETY NEWS

We were very disappointed not to have many present for the AGM which was held in very convivial surroundings. Those present enjoyed the ‘entertainment’ after the formal business and we would like to thank Gaynor for that part of the evening.

Ahoy there! Gaynor must also be thanked for her enterprise in organising our Nautical Coffee Morning which was well-attended. Never was there a better dressed crew! It is not true that Marjorie was made to ‘walk the plank’!

CREAM TEA

On Sunday 7 August 2011, from 2.30 pm to 5.00 pm, we are having a cream tea in Rhiannon and David’s garden at 2 Bellhurst Cottages, Chitcombe Road, Broad Oak TN31 6EU. Entrance by the flag! An optional place to park is at the Rainbow Trout Inn – about 200 metres away. Please bring yourself, £2.50 admission (£1.50 for children – but they don’t taste as nice as the homemade scones and jam!!!!!) and, if possible, a garden chair. A hat is recommended as we expect sun, though Godfrey’s struggling to find a hat! We need to know numbers so you must book up with Rhiannon (01424 882037) by 1 August!!

PROPOSED COACH TRIP TO GREENWICH ON SATURDAY 24 SEPTEMBER??

We need to know if you would be interested in going on a charabanc outing to Greenwich, as the last outing was very popular.  Expected costs will be between £15 and £20 – but this depends on numbers! There’s so much to do in Greenwich with the Maritime Museum, river trips, shopping, antiques etc! Please contact Marjorie on or before 7 August to help make this outing happen!

Sadly, the Christmas Coffee Morning was sabotaged by the very seasonal snow! Apologies to those hardy souls who would have braved the scary weather conditions with their huskies!

Thankfully the weather was fair for our New Year party at Alan, Eric and Jimmy’s home in January. We had a convivial crowd of about 30 who were full of festive cheer! A particular thank you is due for the delicious food; the reluctance of people to leave was a testament to the party’s success!

THE CHARABANC HAS BEEN BOOKED and a group of us are indeed going to hear the famous Fron Choir from North Wales in Chichester on 12 February.  There’s lovely!

CRUMPETS AND SMUGGLERS!

You may have noticed that we’ve had a little bit of snow, but this event sadly had to be postponed – not due to the white stuff from the heavens - but due to our entertainer’s illness! Apologies to anyone who was inconvenienced by the last minute change of plans.

We have moved this event to Sunday 7th February 2010, 3 – 6 pm at The Red Lion, Brede TN31 6EJ. We are being entertained by Geoff Hutchinson (as ye old smuggler!) – fingers crossed that he will be recovered in time! We will have tea and toasted teacakes or crumpets around an open fire. You must book with Rhiannon  no later than 27th January and tell her whether you want a teacake or a crumpet. Geoff Hutchinson is a professional historian and actor – it should be great fun! It’s just £3 and please do bring a raffle prize.
